A suspect with an outstanding Department of Corrections felony warrant for drugs and eluding police found out first hand that it is almost impossible to beat a German Shepard in a foot race.

Last night at around 8:15 pm, North Precinct officers were assisting detectives with the arrest of the felon, who was wanted on a number of charges. Officers saw the felon getting out of a car parked in the area of North 113th Street and Corliss Avenue North and were approaching him on foot, when the 46-year-old suspect fled, tossing drugs and cash as he ran. Officers gave chase, ordering the man to stop several times and warned him that a police dog would be released. Unfortunately, the man decided to keep running.

After giving the suspect a generous one-block start, one of SPD’s four-legged officers, K9 Jaeger, took off after him.

A few moments later, Jaeger had grabbed the fleeing felon’s jacket and tripped him up. The man tried to spin away from the dog, but fell to the ground allowing the trailing officers to arrest him without further incident.

The man did not suffer any injuries (unless you count his pride) during his foot race with Jaeger.

Officers booked the suspect into the King County Jail for drugs and his outstanding warrant.
