A Spokane County sheriff’s dog took down a suspected motorcycle thief early Wednesday morning when the man allegedly tried to escape from police.
Dwayne J. Davis, 31, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of attempting to elude and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.
A deputy saw a man driving a blue Suzuki motorcycle recklessly south on Pines Road near Indiana Avenue around 7:40 Wednesday morning. When the deputy attempted to stop him, the man, later identified as Davis, turned east on Desmet Avenue and began to speed up, almost losing control on icy roads. The man eventually lost control of the bike and slid.
He tried to escape on foot and continued even after the deputy said he’d be releasing his police dog, Ekko.
Ekko caught the suspect quickly and he was taken into custody without further incident. Davis was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries, the release said. The motorcycle he’d been driving was reported stolen on Sept. 14, the release said.
